An exhibition to find out all about the Gutenberg monument erected in Strasbourg in 1840 to mark the 400th anniversary of the invention of printing. A major work by David d’Angers, one of the greatest French statuaries of the 19th century, this monument praises the benefits of printing throughout the world, in a spirit of humanism and friendship between peoples. Located in the heart of the city, it is today an essential part of Strasbourg’s urban heritage and a call to live together.
In June 1840, the inauguration of David d’Angers’ Gutenberg was marked by three days of festivities attended by printers from all over France, as well as the city’s various professions. Workers were the focus of attention. A huge procession sees them ride through the city on floats. The exhibition is an opportunity to showcase the rich collections of the Musée historique de la Ville de Strasbourg (prints, banners, period models, etc.), some of which have been restored for the occasion, bearing witness to this lively procession.
Our role:
Anamnesia was responsible for the design and production of an audio and video system dedicated to the two days of festivities, around a lithographed work of the industrial procession, based on Eugène Glück’s drawings, in the form of a 20-meter scroll.
