A completely redesigned historical museum, where zoological collections interact with contemporary and engaging museography.

Located in the heart of the city and the university campus, the Zoological Museum has become a place of mediation open to major social issues, particularly environmental ones, exploring the evolution of the place of human beings in the animal world through its heritage collections.

Within its enlarged and renovated spaces, the museum offers its visitors a journey into the heart of the diversity of life; the tour takes visitors on a journey of discovery through the history of natural sciences and the functioning of ecosystems, aided by an enhanced presence of oral mediation and multimedia and interactive devices. This offering is complemented by a programme of temporary exhibitions and a rich cultural programme, as well as access to educational workshops and a specialised bookshop.

The Zoological Museum’s collections offer an overview of global biodiversity since the late 18^th century. The museum houses more than 1,200,000 specimens. These collections are notable for their comprehensiveness, making them a benchmark both nationally and internationally. The collections include more than 10,000 mammals and 18,000 birds, 5,000 reptiles, 200,000 molluscs, 900,000 insects and many other invertebrates from all continents and oceans.

These natural history collections are complemented by a rich collection of antique books and educational models that demonstrate the diversity of knowledge transmission media over time.
